John D’Angelico wurde 1905 ‘Little Italy’, auf Manhattan’s Lower East Side geboren. Schon im Alter von 9 Jahren ging er bei seinem Onkel, einem renommierten Geigenbauer in die Lehre und erlangte im weiteren Verlauf seines Schaffens in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts absoluten Kultstatus im Bereich luxuriöser Archtop-Gitarren. Sein Geschäft in New York prosperierte fortan, erst mit schwindender Gesundheit in den 60ern übernahm sein Mitarbeiter D’Aquisto mehr und mehr den Instrumentenbau und mit dem Tod John’s auch dessen Firma. Beide Namen sind auch nach vielen Jahrzehnten ungemein klangvoll und von einer besonderen Aura umgeben.

Verständlich, das in 2011 Bemühungen erste Erfolge hatten, die Marke wieder zu beleben, diesmal mit einer breiten Palette unterschiedener Instrumente, Bauarten und Qualitäten.

Auf der ‘Deluxe’-Plattform beruht diese ‘Brighton’ Ltd. Edition in Matte Walnut und mit Goldhardware, Tortoise-Guard sowie aufwändigen Split-Block-Inlays. Mit dieser wirklich üppigen Optik knüpft man bei D’Angelico nahtlos an die großen Zeiten an. Der Swamp Ast-Body ist klasse gemasert, liegt aber auch ergonomisch bestens in der Hand. Das Halsprofil ist mit einem ‘schlanken C’ angegeben, angenehme Spielbar und für unterschiedlich Stilistinnen geeignet. Seymour Duncan steuert mit den Ur-Humbuckern Seth Lover  hochwertige Tonaggregate bei, die vielseitig schaltbar sind durch eine doppelte Coil-Tap-Funktion.

Insgesamt überzeugt die Gitarre mit einem tollen Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.

Der Zustand der 2020 gebauten Gitarre ist ehrlich gesagt besser als neu, da wir die Spielbarkeit der Gitarre mit unserem frischen Plek-Setup ganz maßgeblich verbessern konnten. Gebrauchsspuren sind davon abgesehen nicht zu finden. Die Auslieferung der D’Angelico erfolgt im originalen Deluxe Hardshell Case mit Hangtags.

Die Brighton zeigte im Scan eine wirklich gute Verarbeitung. Nach der Justage des Trussrods -der Hals war sehr viel zu gerade eingestellt- haben wir noch die Einstellung der Brücke vorgenommen. Die insbesondere na den Diskantsaiten viel zu hoch gedrehte Brücke ist nun perfekt eingestellt.

Die Saitenlage liegt gemessen im 12. Bund nun bei:

  • E: 1,9mm
  • e: 1,3mm
  • Strings: 10-46

Die Bünde bilden über dem Griffbrett einen gemessenen Radius von 11.6″ bis 12.2″ ab, die Bespielbarkeit dieses wirklich gut gemachten Instrumentes ist durch die durchgeführten Maßnahmen nun erheblich verbessert.
